James Carvalho I really love this, the only bad part is that there isn’t more.

Although I only bought it because it’s my bosses music and he forced me to at gunpoint - I’m still really happy with my purchase and highly recommend

about

Named for the system of Tibetan Buddhism which focuses on "discovering and continuing in the ultimate ground of existence," "Dzogchen" is a suite of improvised ambient music by musical partners in crime Ollie Turbitt & Alex Palmer. Drawing on the rich traditions of East & South Asian ritual music (such as Bön ceremonial music and the shamanic sounds of Kim Seok-Chul), Ollie's droning experimental electronics meet Alex's jazz-inflected percussion to create an immersive aural landscape. Recorded remotely across the winter of 2020-2021, the 2 longform tracks of "Dzogchen" are an attempt at creating spiritual music from within the confines of the locked-down household (incorporating folk instruments and gongs as well as synthesisers, field recordings and even a washing machine).

Ollie Turbitt is a composer, writer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Edinburgh, UK. as well as providing guitar and bass duties for a handful of local bands, he has pursued a fluctuating solo career in avant-garde exploration. Under the pseudonyms Oxhead, Sforza Gramsci, OJ Turbitt, Hermetic Gaze and others, his self-released cassettes, USBs and digital albums have aimed to express ideas of cultural memory, false consciousness and mysticism/esotericism through improvisation, sound collage, ambient textures, laptop experimentation and field recordings. Ollie also runs Dead Hound Records, which serves as a platform for both his own material and an increasing list of international experimental acts.
