about

[NOTE: In solidarity with the protesters in Minnesota, all proceeds will be donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a nonprofit which "pays criminal bail and immigration bond for those who cannot afford to as we seek to end discriminatory, coercive, and oppressive jailing." (more info: minnesotafreedomfund.org) BLACK LIVES MATTER // SOLIDARITY FOREVER]

A collection of dense, ambient, wall-of-sound pieces composed on guitar, laptop & synths after a trip to Berlin in January 2020.

As well as taking geographical inspiration, 'Futurability Complex' was heavily informed by the theoretical intersection between cultural memory and visions of the future presented in works by Mark Fisher (as always), Francisco 'Bifo' Berardi (the creator of the term 'futurability') and Jason Bahbak Moaghegh (who explores 'mania, fatality, and the future-in-delirium' in his book 'Omnicide'). In order to represent the process of distorted multiplicities of the past becoming new, these tracks were fully recorded before being fed through analog tape machines, echoes, and delays, then re-recorded through bedroom speakers to add layers of reverb and sonic distance from the original takes. By warping the pieces in this layered way, new qualities were brought out and old qualities were lost, creating ever-shifting versions of the same sounds to reflect the way our memories warp and distort with time.

'The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear'
- Antonio Gramsci
