Continuing the musical processes set in motion by last year's "Objects of Devotion (Vol. I-III)," this collection comprises movements IV and V of an ongoing ambient project inspired by religious esotericism and devotional compositional approaches. Composed over the winter of 2022-23, volumes IV and V present a set of slow-moving ambient drones, generative glitches and manipulated field recordings. The titles of both suites refer to the phenomenon of "miracle-working" across religious traditions worldwide.

Movement IV, "Charismatics," was composed in January 2023 using an array of generative compositional techniques. Parts I and II were arranged using the same set of algorithms and Max effects, triggering layers of soft synths which create a singing tapestry of glitchy polyrhythmic bursts. The title - "Charismatics" - refers to those churches who believe that miracles are performed through the power of the Holy Spirit. Both tracks were composed while reading an array of literature on this idea.

Movement V, "Thaumaturgy," takes the phenomenon of miracle-working in general as its theme. The word "thaumaturgy" is interesting, as it simultaneously denotes both supernatural/magical activity and the holy/miraculous works of saints. As such, the suite's first movement evokes a sinister landscape, with dark and moody drones underpinning an array of disorienting samples. The second movement, instead, is more relaxed and "spiritual" in nature.
The first movement, "Sacrifice of the Self," is an intense death industrial/power electronics track, which layers chaotic noise elements over a long drone improvised on a Behringer Crave. The movement's second piece is dedicated to Olivier Messiaen, a legendary composer whose output was profoundly inspired by religious mysticism. In tribute to him, the track prominently features birdsong, and uses a virtual church organ as its main sound source.
